Local Election 2014

Warren  Mitchell

Warren Mitchell

UK Independence Party
West Heywood Ward

I have lived here in Heywood my whole life, I went to Heywood Community School and worked in a local paper shop in Heywood Centre during my school years, I have been an activist for the past three years, standing previously in 2012.

During my life I have never seen a Labour representative walking around this ward talking to people, asking them what’s going on or noticing things that need doing and getting them done.

I have stood many times in the Centre of Heywood with my little stand talking to people about what they want and need, many of time acting for them. I do my ‘monthly’ walks around the ward finding pot holes, traffic lights, street lights, damaged parks, fly tipping that all needs fixing and report them.

I consider myself a ‘doer’ I like to get things done, I like to be busy and pride myself on the help and support I give to people, I don’t make myself noticed once a year at election time like our Labour Councillors do. If you want somebody who is happy to get things done and fight for you, then vote for me.

Here are a few of my policies;

Cut the council, not our services. We can cut waste, cut Expenses, cut salaries of highly paid Council staff, cut middle management and non-jobs.

Fight for Heywood to have a Grammar School (Heywood Community would have been ideal for this)

Encourage local referenda

Fight to re-open Heywood Police Station

Demand to get a serious grip on our broken roads

Encourage community activity, voluntary groups, encourage use community centres

“Green Heywood” I would fight for a community policy of encouraging people and local institutions to grow their own fruit and veg. Free seed packets could be collected from the Council, saving people money and teaching children about gardening and the beauty of nature. We could ask volunteers to plant these on public owned land and look after them, on certain days we would allow the public to pick what they like as they go about their daily routines.
All in all, providing a healthier, happier borough for minimal costs and teaching children. This policy has been incredibly successful in Todmorden.
