Local Election 2016

Liam O'Rourke

Liam O'Rourke

Labour Party
North Heywood Ward

As someone who is Heywood born and bred and has lived in Heywood for my entire life I am delighted to be standing for re-election as your Labour Councillor.

I am proud of my home town and firmly believe that it is going in the right direction under a Labour Council and a united Labour team on Heywood Township.

It also gives me great pleasure that fellow Heywood Councillor Peter Rush proposed me to stand for council and we, along with Councillor Ray Dutton and Liz McInnes MP are working hard to make North Heywood a better place for residents and businesses.

Times are difficult at the moment as the Council has made over £200 million of cuts since the Lib Dem and Tory Coalition took power in 2010 and the Conservatives continued in power since 2015.

Despite this I am proud of our record of:

  • Keeping every community centre (including Back O’th Moss and Crimble Croft) open
  • Keeping every Library open
  • Keeping every Sure Start children’s centre open
  • No Cuts to Road Sweeping and Street Services
  • No Cuts to Parks and Ground Maintenance
  • No Cuts to Highways Repairs

We have an ambitious programme for the next few years and if you re-elect me as your councillor I will push for:

  • A £1 million business fund to support firms and create jobs in our town and for its people.
  • Grants of up to £5,000 to encourage independent retailers to set up in our town Centre.
  • Business Rate reductions for new businesses filling up empty shops in Heywood.
  • An extra £1 Million for street cleaning
  • An extra £1 Million to fix pot holes
  • An extra 250 bins across the borough
  • Enrolling every child in a library
  • Introducing grants to attract the best maths teachers to our schools

The next few years won’t be easy by any means but I promise as your councillor I and the Labour Party will continue to work towards a better Heywood.

As always if you wish to contact me about casework or any concerns you can get me on 07812 238 325 and liam.o’rourke@rochdale.gov.uk
