Local Election 2010

Tony MacSparran

Tony MacSparran

Liberal Democrat Party
Hopwood Hall Ward

“The election is imminent. There will be local elections on the same day as the general election on 6 May.

It is for you to decide whether you want another four years of Labour in Hopwood. If you don’t, please support me as the only candidate who has the will and ability to beat Labour in Hopwood and Hollin

I have been campaigning on behalf of local residents on many issues over the last year. I’ve been objecting to the proposals to release greenbelt land for development around Collop Gate Farm and Hareshill Road.

I have been campaigning for a solution to the ongoing saga around the Middleton Road ‘triangle’.

I have been putting pressure on the Council to release more funds for Hopwood to repair roads. I got some of the potholes repaired on Torrington Street

I have been trying to get the Council to replace the stolen grids at the rear of Bing Street/ Middleton Road, and I will continue to get things done for local residents.

If elected I will always be approachable and accountable.

I hope you will consider supporting me on May 6th so I can continue to fight for what is best for our area.”

Tony’s priorities for Hopwood Hall will be:

Better and safer roads

  • A yearly programme of road resurfacing to keep our highway network in reasonable condition
  • Working with residents to alleviate the problem of the ‘rat run’ around the side streets of Middleton Road

Working closely with the police

  • Addressing anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking
  • Making sure residents’ priorities are being taken into account, so that, for example, the police are more active and visible in dealing with traffic issues on Middleton Road

Protecting our Greenbelt

  • Stopping development of our greenbelt land
    (see below)

More power for local people

  • Creating area forums for Hopwood and Hollin so that local people have more money and power to decide local priorities and get things done
