Wardle & West L'boro Ward
14 High Barn Close
Richard is 50 and lives in Rochdale with his wife, Diana. He has three grown up children and has worked in IT for over 25 years. The FOCUS team caught up with him this morning and he described himself as 'really excited about the opportunity to serve the people of Wardle & West Littleborough'.
When he is not working, Richard has devoted a significant amount of his time to the Smithybridge and Littleborough Save the Greenbelt Group. Working with the established team, Richard added his experiences working with technology to help make the strongest possible case against the GMSF. he continues to contribute to the campaign as they prepare for the 'Plan of 9' - the successor plan to GMSF, which foundered just before Christmas 2020. Richard has recently got involved with Re-Use Littleborough as a volunteer and is currently working with them to help address their immediate storage issues. He has also recently taken up the post of Lib Dem Environmental Spokesperson for Rochdale, Heywood & Middleton.
'This area, with its amazing countryside points the way to a thriving, sustainable future for everyone,' he said - going on to say 'the current council has shown a massive lack of imagination when thinking about what is possible here - paving over the countryside benefits no one except property developers.'
Whilst environmental concerns are near the top of his list - he is very aware of the more practical concerns that effect people every day in the ward. Crime - particularly car crime, issues with potholes and pavements, speeding and reckless driving - as well as supporting local businesses - especially in these difficult times - are all on his radar.
'If I win your trust in May - or whenever the elections happen - I intend to be fully focussed on the local issues that matter to you.'
In his spare time Richard likes walking on the moors around Littleborough, follows The Dale and plays golf.
