Aisling-Blaise Gallagher

Labour Party
Castleton Ward

Thank you for reading my election pitch.

Please use all three votes for your Labour team

It’s a privilege to represent Castleton, as part of your Labour Team.

I am excited by the prospect of representing the area where I live. I am already in conversations with many residents regarding casework and discussing issues about our local community.

I am married with two young children. My one priority when elected is to protect early years provision within our SureStart centre and to promote safety for our young people in Castleton. I am passionate about road safety, providing more safe crossings for families and other pedestrians to use.

For the majority of my working life, I have worked in special education as teaching assistant/carer. It is a real privilege to support vulnerable children and their families. Recently, I have seen the impact of the cost of living crisis on vulnerable residents. This election is important to tell the ‘Tories that the party is over.’ People have lost faith in their Government and Labour locally are on your side! By providing an additional £150 rebate on band A-D Council Tax, increasing the discretionary crisis fund by another £100,000, providing a new housing service that helps with all concern not just housing, removing the fee for household bins and providing free bulky waste collections.

I want to promote a clean, safe and vibrant village of Castleton that residents can be proud of.

Your Castleton Labour team always work to resolve local issues and to improve facilities in our area. In the last year we’ve been working to make a difference by:

  • Introducing FREE bulky waste collections, and ensuring the local tip stays open until 8pm every day to help tackle illegal fly-tipping - There is NO EXCUSE for these criminals. We will continue to innovate and do everything possible to reduce illegal fly-tipping by using CCTV and employing additional enforcement officers
  • The Labour Team won funding to resurface Barrowdale Drive and Yew Dale GardensVicarage Road North is next, and by bringing the Highways Service back under council control we will reinvest the savings to fill more pot holes and improve footpaths.
  • I have already campaigned for future funding to improve our playgrounds. Heywood Road Playground, I can confirm that plans are being draw up for a new play equipment.
  • Springfield Park has achieved its Green Flag award thanks to the Labour Council’s continued efforts to improve our green spaces.
  • When the Tories refused to feed children in the school holidays, we pledged as a Labour Council that no child should go hungry, and have supported families in the holidays
  • The Labour Team are regularly work with the police and Community Safety to keep our area safe. Concerns around speeding have been mentioned on Rochdale Road, Manchester Road and Bolton Road. I have been told that these area are now a ‘community concern’ and will be monitored frequently, even at night!
  • I am campaigning for funding for a new pedestrian crossing on Manchester Road, near St. Gabriel’s Primary School and am working with Highways and the police to investigate how we can re-engineer roads to slow down traffic.
  • The Labour team paid for a Christmas Tree at our village centre and I would love to arrange a Christmas event for a lights switch-on this year.
  • The Labour Council has not shut a single SureStart, Community Centre or Library, even after being hit with £200million worth of Tory Government cuts.
  • I am excited by the Castleton Masterplan, working co-operatively with the community and partners, I would like more consultation on the ideas and to drive the plan forward.
  • We are creating more opportunities for our younger residents by working with Hopwood Hall College to extend their offers in Rochdale and Middleton.
  • Labour is bringing buses back under public control, with bus and tram fares expected to be capped at £2 for adults and £1 for children
  • Regular surgeries are held by the current Councillors. I will continue this tradition being involved in surgeries and increase social media presence with residents.

Please use all three votes for your experienced and hard-working Labour Team. As a team we will continue to push Castleton we have a great community that all three of us work hard for every day but we need your help at the election to continue doing this.
