Local Election 2022

Richard Eden-Maughan

Richard Eden-Maughan

Liberal Democrat Party
North Heywood Ward

Richard is 51 and lives with his wife, Diana. He has three grown up children and has worked in IT for over 25 years. The FOCUS team caught up with him this morning and he described himself as 'really excited by the opportunity to serve the people of North Heywood'.

Having worked in Heywood - on Green Lane - for almost a decade some years ago; and having two of his children living in Heywood today - Richard is very familiar with the area.  'Heywood is a very close community with great pride in the town - unfortunately a decade of indifference from the Council has left local people feeling frustrated and alienated.  'Has Heywood been forgotten? - they say to me?'  It's time to have someone in Council who will be voice for the people of Heywood.  Its time for a change'.

Listening to local people in the last few weeks, Richard is very aware of the issues of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.  He pledges that if elected his first priority will be to engage with the local Police and work towards creating a town where people feel safe in their homes and on the streets.

While crime is a very pressing concern, it isn't the only thing he has on his radar:

  • Heywood Market - it should be a focal point for all sections of the community, a jewel in our crown.
  • Transport - The bus services in and out of Heywood are dreadful - this must change
  • Green Space - Not one more inch of our valuable countryside to be sold off to build luxury housing one

On the final point, Richard worked extensively with local green belt groups pre-COVID to resist the relentless development of our green spaces in Heywood, Castleton, Littleborough & Milnrow.

'If I win your trust in May - I intend to be fully focussed on the local issues that matter to you.  Lets make a change together.'

In his spare time Richard likes gardening, follows The Dale and plays golf.
