My name is Mudassar Razzaq. I am the owner of your local independent newsagent’s shop on Oldham Road. Established for more than 20 years I have a strong connection with the local community in Rochdale.
These are some of the issues:
Oldham Road & Broad Lane – have 30 mph speed limits, however, vehicles frequently exceed this due to there being no speed camera. I will raise this issue with the relevant authorities as a matter of urgency.
Hartley Lane – This road urgently needs resurfacing as the road is full of potholes. There are no road markings in front of the school. People are parking on both sides creating chaos for residents and endangering children on their way to school.
Oldham Road & Queen Victoria Street junction – Large groups of teenagers gather and cause anti-social behaviour. The bus shelter has been smashed. More active policing is required.
Cost of living crisis - Over the last few months, the combination of a pandemic, increasing inequality between rich and poor, an energy price crisis, and more recently the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, has led to immense pressure on the resilience of the world’s economy and therefore on consumers’ budgets. Some solutions:
- The council should support Foodbanks for families that are going hungry or struggling to eat well.
- Impartial energy advice to help you stay warm and save money on your home energy bills.
- Advice on budgeting if you're struggling with debt or want better control of your money
New houses should be built within the current urban area. For example, on the Kirkholt estate new affordable housing has been built as well as a modern shopping area, a big improvement for the community.
