Dear Kingsway residents,
I am honoured to have represented you as your Labour councillor for the past year, and I am eager to continue serving our community with your support. As a lifelong resident of Rochdale, I am deeply committed to improving the quality of life for everyone here, from our youngest children to our eldest residents.
I have been an active member of Rochdale Council since 2019 and have served as Cabinet member for Children's Services and Education. Along with my Labour colleagues, I have worked tirelessly to support our town and its residents through some of the most challenging times we have faced under the current government.
In the past year, we have achieved significant progress in addressing local issues and improving our community, such as:
- We have ensured that no child goes hungry by delivering over £4.1 million of support to our most vulnerable families.
- We have set up a school uniform recycling programme known as Uniform For All, which has already recycled over 5000 items of uniform to help local families. If you need help find Uniform For All on Facebook @Uniform4A.
- We have taken strong action against illegal fly-tipping by patrolling the area and offering free bulky waste collections. We will always look to prosecute those who illegally dump their waste in our neighbourhood.
- We have improved our roads and pedestrian areas, including resurfacing Kings Road, Percy Street, and Channing Square, installing new island crossings on Milnrow Road, and introducing traffic calming measures on Bertha Road, Rosefield Crescent, Margaret Avenue, and Channing Street.
- We have won three RHS In Bloom awards with our Youth Service on Moss Street and plan to develop more green projects in the community.
- With Rochdale In Bloom, we are proud to have received a Queens Green Canopy tree for our environmental efforts, and have funded more trees to be planted in our area.
- We have invested in our youth services and created new jobs across the borough, with future opportunities including Rochdale's Atom Valley, and AMPI (Advanced Machinery and Productivity Institute).
- We are regenerating Rochdale Town Centre and our Town Hall, earning recognition for having the Best Town Centre in the North West, for the past two years.
These are just a few examples of the progress we have made, and I am committed to continuing this important work. I pledge to always be on your side and to listen to your concerns, making your voices heard in Rochdale Council.
