Local Election 2023

David Bamford

David Bamford

Liberal Democrat Party
Milnrow & Newhey Ward

Dave Bamford has been your Councillor for the past five years and is no stranger to rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck in- literally and figuratively. Born and raised in the ward, Dave lives on Smith Hill with his wife, and daughters who attend local schools.

“The first priority for a Councillor should be to serve the people of the ward that elected them.” Said Dave as FOCUS caught up with him on the campaign trail.

“The Lib Dem team in Milnrow and Newhey aim to be there for residents when we are most needed. We think you deserve the best services from your council and want to make sure things are corrected when that doesn’t happen- recycling, roads, and pavements, drains, street lighting and street signs etc- the staple casework load of a local Councillor. But that’s not all we do, we want Milnrow & Newhey to be the best place to live for everyone.”

Since the previous Labour leader was found guilty of bring the Council into disrepute when threatening to withhold funding to our ward, more and more voters have put their faith in the Lib Dem team. That, coupled with a disastrous Tory government who have delivered a cost-of-living crisis, sky high inflation and a failing NHS means that we continue to her that “The Liberals are the only ones round here who do owt!”

But we don’t want to rest on our laurels. There is always more to be done.

My commitment to you in Milnrow, Newhey and Ogden.

  • Be available, approachable and confidential- you can contact us via phone, social media, email or in person to discuss the things that matter to you!
  • Provide advocacy- by working with both the Council and other organisations, and lobbying on your behalf. E.g.Transport for Greater Manchester, Housing Associations, the Environment Agency, the Woodland Trust, and the NHS to name a few.
  • Bring in the funding- applying for hard money for local groups. Over the years the team has helped raise substantial amounts of cash for the Skate Park, Ellenroad Steam Mill, Milnrow Brass Band, and the Parish Church War Memorial.
  • Speaking up- the Lib Dem group are notoriously vocal at Full Council and on the committees we serve. We challenge and scrutinise the decisions made by the ruling Labour group.
  • Getting a good deal- making sure that funds are spent on more positive events such as music festivals, the carnival and Remembrance Day continue to allow people to engage positively in our area.
