Rochdale Philatelic Society, 8th August 2023 Club Meeting Press Release
Tonight's meeting consisted of displays by members covering the letters “A,B,or C”.
The first presentation covered World Heritage Sites with photos, philatelic material and cards of Austria and Belgium.
This was followed by a display of Booklets from Malta , the first not appearing until 1970/1971. Another large break came before an issue in 1994, but it wasn't until 2003 when a booklet would be issued each year for “EUROPA”
The third display covered postal history covers from the Manchester Penny Post No. 3 Austerlands District. The Post Office closed in 1831 and covered parts of Oldham up to Saddleworth. There were also covers from Bury Penny Post with a cover from November 1817 being the earliest. Covers with 2d blues and 1d blacks were also shown.
The next display comprised a series of covers from the 1958 British & Commonwealth Games with various cachets and dates.
The last display was of covers from “Scott Base” Antarctica with various cachets and covers relating to the purpose and history of the base.
