October 2023 Club Meeting Notes

This evenings meeting was presented by two members of the Burnley Philatelic Society.
John Jones gave a presentation titled "Updates" which consisted of early Edwardian / George V postcards from a variety of printers where the original painting / photograph had gone through a series of updating of the scene. This allowed the printing houses the saving in costs of having to send the artist/photographer back to the original location to re-do the scene. A form of "cut & pstae" well before computers.
Barry Evans from Burnley followed with a talk on the history of the Universal Postal Union. (U.P.U.). Part 2, Periodic U.P.U. conferences provided delegates with commemorative post cards depicting venue scenes , whilst a wealth of advertising ephemera and sets of stamps were produced from the host countries .
